Lovely Umayam

Lovely Umayam joined the creative writing organization WriteGirl in 2002, where she worked with a mentor for five years and had her creative work published in five award-winning WriteGirl anthologies.  First in her family to go to college, she received a full scholarship to Reed College, and is currently studying at the Monterey Institute of International Studies.

Lovely is the founder and chief writer for Bombshelltoea website exploring the intersection of arms control policy and popular culture that won first prize in the U.S. State Department’s Innovation in Arms Control Challenge.  She is a columnist for The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientist and a Fellow at the, Department of Energy working on nuclear policy. Lovely wrote a poem specifically for “The Shriver Report LIVE” event.
